What about deep cycle batteries and where do we use them?

05 October 2023

Deep Cycle batteries are designed to withstand repeated discharge/charge cycles. Deep discharge is achieved because the batteries are made of thick lead/calcium (Pb/Ca) plates, elements that ensure excellent resistance against corrosion.

At the same time, deep discharge batteries operate small 12V loads (lights, refrigerators, motors, etc.) for a long time, without being charged. These batteries are designed to "endure" several cycles of slow and deep discharge, followed by slow and full charge.

What categories are deep discharge batteries divided into?

Deep discharge batteries are divided into:

• Liquid electrolyte, Flooded Lead Acid (FLA) and

• Electrolyte applied to plate surfaces with expansion valve (VRLA)

Furthermore, the VRLA type battery is further subdivided into two types:

• AGM type battery

• GEL type battery

Where do we use deep discharge batteries?

Deep discharge batteries are used in a variety of devices including:

• Batteries for Electric Vehicles (Scooters, Bicycles, Cars)

• Electric Wheelchair Batteries

• Batteries for Golf Car

• Batteries for Boats

• Hoist batteries

• Forklift/Clark batteries

• Batteries for Industrial Vacuum Cleaners
