Heat Wave and Car Battery: What to Watch Out For.
27 June 2025
“Heatwaves can negatively affect your car battery,
mainly due to the increase in temperature
which causes the evaporation of fluids and corrosion of internal components. To protect your battery, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun by parking your car in a shady place or using sun protection. Also, regularly check the condition of the battery and its fluid level, and make sure not to leave the car with the headlights or other electrical systems on for a long time. Finally, if you notice problems with starting the engine or with the operation of the electrical systems, visit a workshop to check the battery.
Tips for protecting your car battery from heatwaves:
· Avoid exposure to the sun:
Park your car in a shady place or use sun protection to avoid overheating.
· Check your battery regularly:
Check the condition of the battery and its fluid level, if the battery is a wet electrolyte type.
· Do not leave electrical systems on:
Avoid prolonged operation of headlights, air conditioning or other electrical systems when the car is off.
· Check the battery terminals:
Make sure that the battery terminals are clean and well connected.
· In case of problems, visit a workshop:
If you notice difficulty starting or other problems with the battery, visit a specialized workshop for inspection and maintenance.
Note: Modern car batteries are usually closed type and do not require frequent maintenance, but heat waves can accelerate the evaporation of liquids and cause problems.”
